The 2013 Mastroberardino 'Radici' is a wonderful release from this storied estate in Taurasi. The Estates flagship wine, and one of the most recognized wines of Taurasi, this 100% Aglianico was sourced from the Mirabella Eclano vineyard, where vine age averages 30 years in age are planted to clay/sand soils, at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level. The wine itself is fantastic, it spent 24 months in French oak barriques and Slavonian casks and 24 months in the bottle before release. It begins with inviting aromas of blackberries and red fruits with spring florals and exotic spices all taking shape. Beautifully balanced, this continues to impress with its outstanding structure and gorgeous refined texture, which leads up to the long, precise finish. The pedigree is already quite evident, however you may want to tuck it away for a few more years as it will need a bit more time in bottle before it begins to show its best.
