PAOLO BEA Sagrantino di Montefalco 'Cerrete' 2009

This is an utterly captivating Sagrantino from Paolo Bea which comes from the Cerette Vineyard. Cerrete is the highest in elevation of all Paolo Bea's vineyards and considered to be their Grand Cru. The 2009 is simply gorgeous, as it opens to striking nuances of ripe cherries and blackberries woven together with leather, minerals, fresh herbs and exotic spices all taking shape. This is beautifully structured and displays remarkable overall balance and depth leading into the lingering finish. I’ve been a long-time fan of all Paolo Bea’s wines and consider them to be the pinnacle of Sagrantino. Although currently Cerrete only shows hints of its potential, its pedigree is already quite evident. (Best 2020-2036) - March, 2017 (JD)
