ARGIANO Brunello di Montalcino 2009

The 2009 Argiano is a classy showing, offering fantastic aromas of cherries, blackberries and plums, followed by spices, vanilla, sage and cedar notes which burst from the glass. It possesses wonderful balance and finesse with a surprisingly firm structure for the vintage. It is all wrapped up in a long, chewy finish that lingers on. Winemaker Hans Vinding-Diers ages the wine in two different types of wood. The first year is spent in French oak barriques and tonneaux with different capacities, while the second is spent in larger Slavonian oak barrels. After completing the maturing process in wood, the wine is then transferred into concrete tanks. This is drinking fantastic right now, but I would expect this to be even better after another year or so in bottle. (Best 2014-2021) - April, 2014 (JD)
