Voliero, which was started in 2006 by Andrea Cortonesi (Uccelliera), comes from the cooler, lighter soils of the north, the vineyards are situated at 250-450 meters above sea level with various exposures and the vines are between 10 and 20 years old. The 2010 is absolutely stunning, this wonderfully pure and elegant expression of Sangiovese delivers beautiful aromas of bright cherries and blackberries, which are followed by sweet spices, floral, wild herbs and fresh water springs. It continues to impress with his gorgeous fine, silky texture and amazing finesse adding in a layer of underlying acidity providing lift. This remains focused and balanced as it makes a seamless transition into the long, polished finish. This is a flat-out gorgeous Brunello from Andrea Cortonesi that is already showing so much, but look for this to be even better with time. (Best 2017-2032) - February, 2015 (JD)
