The Lazzarito is one of the most famous ‘crus’ in the Serralunga and vietti’s most modern style of their single vineyard Barolo’s. The 2005 is still a youthful wine, with big tannins and surprising power. It’s really starting to drink beautifully and another several years of bottle age will do it well but don't be afraid to open now and decant. The wine is beautifully translucent to sight, offering aromas of dried cherry and cigar box, which emerge from the glass. The palate is dark cherries, tobacco leaf, and a hint of cedar. The finish is long and formidable. If the tannins softened a bit more this would be upgraded. (Best 2015-2030) - January, 2014 (VM)
