The 'Coste di Rose' Cru is located in the community of Barolo, just in front of the Bussia hill in Monforte. This vineyard is characterized by a very steep slope with soils that are moderately calcareous and very rich in quartzite sand, fine limestone and just a small amount of clay. The 2011 is an outstanding Barolo, which is made in a very traditional style. As this slowly begins to unwind in the glass it releases petty aromas of red fruits, spices, mint, licorice and dried floral, all coming together beautifully. It shows an impressive firm structure, backed by fine tannins and wonderful balance. The long chewy finish is marked by red fruits and spices. Overall, a lovely effort, but this will not be a wine you can rush into, some patience will be required. (Best 2018-2031) - June, 2015 (JD)
