The 2012 Rocche di Castiglione is a simply gorgeous showing from Vietti in this vintage. As this elegant and refined Barolo slowly unwinds it releases striking aromas of fresh cherries, strawberries and other red berry nuances, along with fresh cut floral, exotic spices, minerals and hints of fresh mint all coming together beautifully. This continues to impress with its refined structure and remarkable overall balance and finesse. It remains focused and precise through the finish where it lingers on and on with beautiful red fruits and spices. Today the 'Rocche di Castiglione' already offers quite a bit of early appeal, and seems to be the most complete wine from Vietti at this early stage, however it is ultimately an age worthy wine, which will likely be at its best after some extended bottle age.
