E. PIRA CHIARA BOSCHIS Barolo 'Via Nuova' 2012

2016 TOP 100 WINES | Rank #25

The 2012 Via Nuova Barolo is another spectacular release from Chiara Boschis in this vintage. This is sourced from multiple vineyard sties in the towns of Barolo, Monforte and Serralunga and aged in French oak (1/3 new, 1/3 second use, 1/3 three+ uses) for 24 months before aging an additional year in bottle. The 2012 is a wine which possesses wonderful purity and precision, as begins to releases alluring aromas of ripe strawberries, raspberries and cherries all coming together with floral, sweet spices, and minerals all taking shape. On the palate this continues to impress as it demonstrates remarkable focus with outstanding overall balance and finesse, before delivering a burst of bright red fruits heading into the silky finish. Simply gorgeous today, but possesses excellent potential to age for years to come. (Best 2019-2032) - October, 2016 (JD)
