TENUTA DELLE TERRE NERE Etna Bianco 'Cuvée delle Vigne Niche' 2011

2013 Top 100 - Rank # 2

The 2011 Tenuta della Terre Nere Etna Bianco 'Cuvée delle Vigne Niche' is a stunning wine, and one of the best Italian whites I have tasted in recent memory. This Bianco has the depth and complexity you would expect from a Rosso, but it also has an elegant side. It brings absolutely gorgeous aromas of vanilla bean, tropical fruits, honey, orange blossoms, citrus zest and smoky minerals. Not only is this extremely delicious, it's very well balanced, focused and has a beautiful fresh finish. This absolutely outstanding Bianco from Terre Nere is 100% Carricante from volcanic soils on the northern slope of Mount Etna 600 up to 900 meters above sea level. The fruit underwent malolactic fermentation and was aged in French oak barriques for 10 months followed by aging in bottle for 8 months. Although this is delicious and hard to resist upon release, it is sure to age gracefully. (Best 2013-2027) - August, 2013 (JD)
