The 2013 MunJebel Rosso is a wonderful overview of Frank Cornelissen's style. This 100% Nerello Mascalese comes from some of the best parcels in his Single Vineyard Crus (Chiusa Spagnolo, Monte Colla, Porcaria, Barbabecchi) as well as designated vineyards for this specific wine (Rampante, Piano Daini and Crasà). The wine itself offers wonderful nuances of raspberry and wild berries, woven together with minerals, spicy florals, herbal tea and smoky ash which emerge form the glass. This is pure and focused, possessing a medium body with fine, silky tannins and excellent structure through the lively finish. Frank Cornelissen considers this his “Classico” although he cannot technically label the wine as such. It will be interesting to watch this evolve over the next decade.
