This 100% Nerello Mascalesse comes from the Monte Colla Vineyard, located on Mount Etna's Northern Valley. The 70-years-old vines in Monte Colla are planted on a steep and terraced hill above the volcanic soil, facing south-south west. Monte Colla is unique as it very exposed to wine and catches the very last bit of daylight of the valley. The wine itself is stunning, showing wonderful class and purity. Black raspberries and wild blueberries are mixed together with fresh floral, spices, white pepper, minerals and smoky ash. This continues to impress with its impeccable structure, focus and precision as it remains balanced the ultra-long, chewy finish. Today, the wine is quite appealing, but it will require some additional bottle age before it hits full-stride. (Best 2018-2034) - April, 2015 (MD)
