TENUTA DI BISERNO 'Biserno' 2011

The 2011 Tenuta di Biserno is a superb follow up to last years outstanding effort. This project run by Lodovico Antinori involves some of the best in the business, including the legendary French consultant Michel Rolland and the first ever with his brother Piero Antinori. This blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot delivers gorgeous aromas of ripe black fruits, spices, espresso, chocolate, tar, pain grille, graphite and floral, which all come together beautifully in the glass. The full body is structured around a wonderful plush texture with amazing depth and concentration. It shows excellent balance getting lift from the layer of underlying acidity that carries this wine into the long voluptuous finish. This is nothing short of a fabulous and really reminds me of a great Right-Bank wine. The wine was aged 16 months in 60% new French oak barriques and the rest in one-year-old barrels. Although this spent 12 months in the bottle prior to its release it will still benefit from a bit more time in bottle, but there is certainly a long, bright future here.
