VECCHIA CANTINA Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2011

The 2011 Vecchia Cantina Vino Nobile di Montepulciano was aged in Slavonic oak puncheons for 24 months prior to bottling. Currently needing more than a one hour of air contact to fully unwind, this blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Merlot slowly awakens in the glass with blood orange, prune, pipe tobacco and eucalyptus aromatics. There is lovely fruit weight on the mid-palate with flavors reminiscent of black plum, cigar box, black cherry, leather and boysenberry cobbler. Lithe, rich and well-developed at this juncture, this wine is already very appealing, but also shows some nice aging potential as well. (Best 2017-2027) - March, 2017 (OB)
