The 2015 'Il Pollenza' is a magnificent showing, composed of predominately Cabernet Sauvignon, along with a dash of Merlot and Petit Verdot. It begins with captivating aromatics of dark cherries, plums and cassis woven together with tobacco, spices, leather, spring florals, forest herbs, tar and hints of crushed stones that all develop in the glass. This possesses a well defined, full body, which is beautifully structured with fine velvety tannins and remarkable overall precision and balance. It shows wonderful concentration and depth, with lovely streaks of minerality and vibrant acidity keeping it fresh and inviting through the long, silky finish. Sophisticated and classy, this is a total beauty from winemaker Carlo Ferrini. While already showing signs of greatness, this is ultimately an age worthy wine which will certainly have a incredibly long future ahead. That being said, I expect this will take a few more years before it hits its stride, and readers should highly consider tucking this away, or allowing extended air contact at the very least.
