The 2011 ‘Capogatto’ is an absolutely stunning Bordeaux style blend from Poggio Scalette composed of equal parts Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It immediately bursts open with fresh aromas of pure dark fruits, mainly blackberries and cherry reduction, which are woven together with pain grille, tar, roasted coffee, floral, savory herbs and Asian spices. This full-bodied red shows wonderful purity, concentration and depth while remaining beautifully balanced all the way through the long, polished finish. This is just about impossible to resist, even at this early stage, however those who are patient will also be able to watch this evolve for many years. Readers who enjoy Bordeaux should not pass this up. (Best 2014-2029) - September, 2014 (JD)
