The 2016 San Leonardo is an absolutely brilliant wine in this vintage. It begins with inviting aromas of black cherries, blackberries, tobacco, spices, violets and wild herbs, which all slowly come together in the glass. This medium to full-bodied red is beautifully polished and balanced with a wonderful combination of ripe dark fruits and acidity, keeping it fresh and inviting. This continues to impress with excellent depth and focus through the long, chewy finish, as flavors of dark fruits are framed by smoky tobacco notes. Delicious now, yet also possesses the potential to take on extended cellaring. Simply put, this is a sensational wine.
