FERRANDO Carema 'Etichetta Bianca' 2009

2013 Top 100 - Rank #50
The 2009 Camera 'Etichetta Bianca' is an absolutely gorgeous effort from Luigi Ferrando and his sons. This brings a beautiful elegant style with pretty aromas of fresh strawberries, red berries, dried floral, Asian spices and licorice. The fine-grained tannins are firmly structured, well-integrated and tightly wound. This displays amazing focus and finishes up so long and pretty, but it's really impressive for its purity of fruit, bright acidity and “Burgundian” character. This is produced exclusively from the Nebbiolo grape planted in a series of vineyards that sit beneath Mont Blanc (Monte Bianco) and is a testament that not all great Nebbiolo has to come from Barolo or Barbaresco. The appellation of Carema is extremely small: only 16 hectares (approximately 40 acres) are planted to the vine. By DOC law, Carema cannot be released before four years of aging, however this will require additional bottle age after release. (Best 2019-2028) - October, 2013 (JD)
