The 2017 Tenuta Di Trinoro is a fantastic effort from Andrea Franchetti in this difficult growing season which offered a dry winter, frost in the spring and summer temperatures were exceedingly high, with peaks of 104 degrees during the day, for three straight months with little or no relief at night. The 69% Cabernet Franc, 23% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon which was used in the blend was harvested on September 27th (Merlot) and between October 10-13 (Cabernet Franc/Cabernet Sauvignon) and aged eight months in new French oak barriques, 11 months in cement vats. The wine itself opens with inviting aromas of blackberries, dark cherries, exotic spices, herbs and smoky pipe tobacco that all come together beautifully in the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied and concentrated with outstanding overall depth and balance leading up to the long opulent finish. The 2017 is a total success and while this is already quite alluring in its youth, it should also evolve gracefully for years to come.
