The 2016 Palazzi is a monumental showing in this vintage. This 100% Merlot is sourced from a single vineyard called 'Strada Vecchia' and is selection of grapes from about a two hectares area. The Merlot spent eight months in new French oak barrels, and 11 months in cement tanks. It immediately begins to impress with its gorgeous dark color, followed by its wonderful ripe character, offering seductive aromatics of blackberry coulis, dark cherries, exotic spices, tobacco and fresh herbs that all come together and burst from the glass. On the palate this is just as spectacular, as it possesses a wonderful multi-layered opulent texture. Demonstrating excellent overall balance and structure this continues to dazzle until the very end as the plush finish leaves a long lasting impression. The 2016 is a sensational wine from Andrea Franchetti, and there is no exception here, as it is already extremely captivating in its youth. This has the potential to become the best vintage of Palazzi yet, but production is low and with only about 240 cases produced, so there won't be much to go around.
