The 2009 Merlot from Meroi is an extremely impressive showing. It’s almost hard to believe that a wine with such concentration, depth and power can come from a cool climate region of Italy, which is known for its whites, however this wine is a testament to the potential for this varietal in the region. Damiano is a Master with the varietal, crushing the grapes and immediately putting the juice in barrel for fermentation, not removing it until it is ready for bottling. The wine is superb, aromas and flavors of fresh cassis, dark cherry, spices and pencil shavings are just a few of the nuances that this offers. It is extremely balanced and voluptuous all the way through the ultra-long finish. This is already offering so much and this is a wine that should not be missed. 125 Cases.
