The 2017 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is an absolutely outstanding wine from this legendary producer. The wine was aged concrete tanks for 2 years then it is bottled by hand without straining and aging in bottle. It instantly begins to impress as it opens to incredible aromatics of dark cherry reduction and red berries, which are laced with forest herbs, violets, spices, licorice and mineral nuances that all take shape in the glass. On the palate this beautifully defined and focused, with a vibrant core of dark red cherries and spices that priest throughout. It displays wonderful elegance and concentration all the way through the long finish. This is Emido Pepe's Italian release, which is made from younger vines, nonetheless it is a simply sensational wine that will continue to drink beautifully for quite some time.
