The 2011 Quinta Do Vallado Reserva is a fantastic wine from this esteemed estate in the Douro Valley. The Reserva is largely sourced from a century old vineyard (85%) Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca and others. The other 15% comes from 20-year-old vines of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. This was aged for 18 months (60% aged new barriques and 40% in 2nd year barriques) prior to bottling. The wine begins with beautiful aromas of wild blackberry, anise and blueberry compote to this intensely aromatic wine. On the palate this offers rich flavors of blackberry pie, blueberry compote, anise and cassis with hints of orange rind. This is a full-bodied and beautifully structured wine with a finish that lingers on. Although outstanding now, this will be best with additional bottle age. (Best 2016-2028) - May, 2016 (OB)
