The 2006 Adega Familiar Eladio Piñeiro 'La Coartada Gran Reserva' is an exciting wine. Comprised of 80% Aragonez, 15% Alicante Bouschet and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, which was sourced from Alentejo vineyards with an average age of 25 years. This spent 48 months in new oak and was aged a further 36 months in steel prior to bottling. The bouquet is initially reticent, as the wine needs a one hour decent to fully unwind. Upon awakening there are deep aromas of wild strawberry, rhubarb, sour red cherry, black plums and roasted dates. The wine has rich flavors of black tea, rose petals, cranberry, Yakima cherry and suggestions of nutmeg and orange rind. The citrus component to this wine contributes to the balance. With a polished mouthfeel and rich texture, this wine is drinking beautifully right now. (Best 2016-2022) - September, 2016 (OB)
