The 2015 Palladius is a world-class wine from one of South Africa's most talented and exciting winemakers Eban Sadie. This ia an exotic and harmonious blend of Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Clairette Blanche, Viognier, Verdelho, Roussanne, Marsanne, Semillon Gris, Semillon Blanc, Palomino and Colombard, was sourced from both granite and sandstone soils. The grapes are pressed in a traditional basket press and the juice runs off directly to clay amphoras, concrete eggs & old oak foudres prior to natural fermentation for up to 20 months followed by two years aging. Each varietal adds its own distinct characteristics to this complex blend as it is an extremely aromatic wine with nuances of orchard fruits, poached pear, tangerine peel, honeysuckle, jasmine, crushed stones, Meyer lemon and flinty minerality all taking shape. It is equally as complex on the palate, as it showcases a beautiful texture along with remarkable overall depth, concentration and balance leading up to the long, percise and mouthwatering finish. This is a seamless wine which is already absolutely brilliant today and clearly has a bright future ahead. One of the most compelling and simply intriguing whites I have tasted in a while. Just a fascinating wine from Eban Sadie, who has assembled a total masterpiece.
