The 2013 Optima is a sensational blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot which were aged separately for 18 months in 225L French oak barrels (35% new oak). The wines were blended and aged for a further 6 months in barrel and tank and bottle-matured for 24 months before release.. It begins with incredibly perfumed aromatics of blackberries and currents woven together with spices, savory herbs, tobacco and florals all taking shape. On the palate this is medium-bodied with excellent restraint and balance. Structured with velvet, yet firm tannins this continue to impress as it leaves a lasting impression of gorgeous ripe fruits and spices lingering on. A fantastic wine which is fantastic now and should age beautifully over the course of the next decade.
