2015 TOP 100 WINES | Rank #32
The 2004 Gran Reserva '904' is an absolutely stunning wine, bursting with incredible aromas dried blackberries and cherries along with vanilla, toasted coconut, sweet balsamic, floral, leather, earthy minerals, crushed stones and a touch of sweet oak which are all layered beautifully in the glass. This medium-bodied Rioja impresses with its excellent balance and gorgeous soft, velvety tannins which are well integrated into the seamless texture that carries on through the long finish. Although this is very appealing today, it is certainly a wine that is built for the long haul and will only improve with additional time. The '904' is composed of Tempranillo (90%) from vines over 40-years-old grown in the municipalities of Briñas, Labastida and Villalba, perfectly complemented with 10% Graciano from Melchorón I and II vineyards in Briones and Rodezno.
