The 2012 Bodega Contador 'La Cueva del Contador' is another scintillating release from Benjamin Romeo. The wine was blended from 8 vineyards, including Raicilla (21%) San Pablo (19%), Sauco (15%), La Liende (13%), El Bombon (12%), La Rad (8%), Bardallo (7%) and Ariaisabel (5%). Weighing in at 14.7 percent alcohol there is 9% Garnacha added to the Tempranillo. Possessing a rich and dark hue, this wine starts with aromatics of Mandarin orange rind, vanilla, red cherry and rose petals. There are flavors of black cherry, tangerine peel, wild blackberry and suggestions of coffee grounds. Rich and lithe, this is a gorgeous bottling by Contador. Try to cellar this gorgeous new release Rioja for at least another gear.(Best 2017-2028) - April, 2016 (OB)
