The 2016 'Mirum' Ribera del Duero is a fantastic showing. Made from 100% Tempranillo from old bush vines, and aged in a mixture of 90% French oak and 10% Hungarian oak. The wine itself opens to inviting aromas of blackberries and dark cherries which are woven together with vanilla, exotic spices, fresh florals, tobacco leaf, forest herbs and hints of black tea. This medium-plus bodied red is supported by velvety, yet grippy tannins and delivers a racy core of juicy red and dark fruits that combine with spicy flavors that persist through the long finish. Simply fantastic now and should offer a drinking window that spans at least a decade long.
