The Sous le Chêne Pinot Noir from Domaine de la Côte is a small, one barrel production that comes from a section of the La Côte Vineyard below the oak tree (sous le chêne). The wine itself is utterly captivating as it begins with incredibally perfumed, seductive aromas of ripe black cherries, red plums, potpourri, fresh violets, tar, exotic spices and damp earth all taking shape beautifully in the glass. On the palate this displays a wonderful roundness, with remarkable overall focus and precision, as bright fruit flavors combine with layers of minerality building up to the long mouthwatering finish. This is an absolute beauty, however readers should plan on allowing this additional bottle age, as it is a wine destined for a brilliant future.
