2012 is the first vintage from the Mount Carmel Vineyard for Sandhi and it has been an inspiration for Raj Parr to make a wine from here. Mount Carmel was planted in 1991 and is the highest vineyard in the Santa Rita Hills. The wine itself is absolutely stunning, delivering seductive aromas of ripe black cherries and red berries followed by earth, flowers, clove and subtle hints of milk chocolate. It has impressive structure and balance ending with a long finish, laced with crushed flowers, tobacco and plums that add a final layer of complexity. This will need some additional time in bottle to flesh out, and it looks to be the most age worthy of Sandhi’s range of Pinot Noir in this vintage. (Best 2017-2035) - April, 2014 (MD)
