The 2016 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon is composed from all the vineyard blocks, including Block 4 – the “grande dame” of the vineyard, which was planted back in 1972, as well as the eastern blocks consisting of volcanic soils, and western blocks of alluvial soils. The wine itself is fantastic as it begins with gorgeous aromas of blackberries and currants, which are woven together with loamy minerals, cocoa powder, violets and hints of spices that all combine seamlessly in the glass. On the palate this possesses a wonderful medium to full body with a wonderful rich plush texture wrapped in velvety tannins that lead up to the long graceful finish. Walking the fine line of power and finesse, this fabulous Cabernet offers wonderful appeal today, but should also go on to evolve beautifully over the next two decades.
