The 2011 Epoch ‘Authenticity' is an impressive follow up to last years amazing effort. It is dark and brooding, opening with intense aromas of ripe black fruits, exotic spices, pepper, smoke, lavender and even dark chocolate notes emerge with air. It boasts a full body, and possesses remarkable concentration, depth and power, however there is some underlying acidity which provides lift and a sense of freshness. The finish is long, persistent and supple, leaving behind a thick coating of delicious dark fruits, spices and chocolate notes that carry on for minutes. Another outstanding showing for the ‘Authenticity’ in 2011, and if you are a fan of the iconic wines of Saxum and SQN you should seek this out immediately. This is outstanding today, but I expect it to show even better in years to come. The 66% Syrah, 33% Mourvèdre and 1% Viognier was sourced from the Paderewski vineyard. 439 Cases made.
