The 2020 Woodward Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series is a knockout wine and an incredible value. With a composition of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot and small amounts of Syrah, Barbera and Dolcetto, this wine hits all the right notes. Spending 22 months in 39% new French and Hungarian oak and violet in color, it possesses a nose of cherry and cola. As with all the 2020 reds I tasted from this winery, it possesses a plush, mouthcoating and velvety entry. Black raspberry, Chambord, licorice, and sweet tar are all jumping from the glass from the get-go. With great depth and body, this wine is able to shift gears seamlessly, and does so in a seductive and sexy way. As it sprints towards a 45 second finish, prune and fig paste emerge late in the game. This may be the best vintage in the past decade of this cuvee, which is saying quite a bit about how much I enjoyed this wine. Give it a year or two of cellaring and then enjoy it over the next two decades.
