A unique blend of 52% Syrah, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 8% each of Merlot and Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Red Blend from Walla Walla Vintners hits the mark with this effort. Spending 18 months in 25% new French oak, it shows aromas of slight violets and cedar. Medium bodied and carrying a little heat early, it has a fine, but grippy, tannic structure. On entry, it flamboyantly showed blueberry, blackberry, bittersweet mocha, and espresso, along with a tinge of white pepper. Expressive, lively, and well-constructed, it smoothed out with time in the glass and showed some red raspberry mid-palate through finish. This wine is a fantastic value. Give it a year or two to settle down and then enjoy for another ten years.
