QUILCEDA CREEK Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley 2014

The 2014 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is shaping up beautifully at this stage. It possesses an absolutely seductive nose, with aromas of blackberries, dark cherries, plum, mocha, savory herbs, graphite, loam with hints of exotic spices and fresh cut florals. The palate is full bodied, incredibly well-structured, balanced and fresh. It goes on to display a wonderful sense of refinement and polish all the way through the ultra-long, expressive finish. This is utterly fascinating now, but it is ultimately built to age, and has the potential for two decades of evolution ahead. The 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from Champoux, Palengat, and Wallula vineyards.

This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 21 months in new French oak and was sourced from the Champoux, Palengat and Wallula Vineyards. Having a dense core this inky colored Cabernet begins with a ripe, expressive bouquet of crème de cassis, rose petals, anise, chocolate coated cherries and sweet pipe tobacco, which are absolutely intoxicating, yet depict a wonderful sense of place. The palate is plush and intense, showing a wonderful softness at this juncture. There are deep, concentrated flavors of black forest cake, black olive tapenade, crème de cassis, mocha and suggestions of eucalyptus all working together. The minerality is absolutely fabulous as this wine brings near perfect tension combined with ripe fruits and an exceedingly long, seamless finish. This Cabernet is both massive and elegant and possesses a quality, which reminds me of some of the best vintages for this wine. Overall, this simply stunning wine should age gracefully for decades and is one of the most compelling releases of Quilceda Creek’s Columbia Valley Cabernet which I can recall, as it flirts with the rare limits of perfection.
