Los Alamos lies between the cool Santa Maria Valley appellation to the north and the warmer Santa Ynez Valley and is influenced by each of these areas. The 2014 Los Alamos Pinot Noir from Gavin Chanin is a drop dead gorgeous effort. This elegant Pinot opens with striking aromas of raspberries and wild berries along with smoke, florals and spices all coming together beautifully. It continues to impress with remarkable balance, finesse and a lovely fine, silky texture that makes it impossible to resist. This Pinot Noir already has so much personality and displays Chambertin-like characteristics. I expect this to continue to age gracefully for years to come. (Best 2017-2027) - May, 2016 (JD)
