The 2013 'Chilion' from winemaker Evan Lewandowski is 100% Cortese, which displays an orange color from the skin contact fermentation. The fruit was sourced from the Fox Hill Vineyard, which was founded by Lowell Stone, who fell in love with Italian varietals during his travels to Italy. He decided to plant these varietals in California, starting with mostly red gapes and then adding in some white. Evan refers to this his as his "cuvee zero" meaning that nothing has been added to tthe wine, only the grapes. The wine itself offers pretty aromas of grapefruit, orange peel, crushed stone, herbal tea, mineral, peach and dried floral notes. On the palate it is very clean with medicinal and herbal flavors followed by pure fruit and minerality all the way into the finish. (Best 2014-2018) - July, 2014 - (MD)
