The 2016 'Encosta' is a fantastic wine from Manuel Pires and his winemaking team lead by Phillipe Melka. Composed of predominately 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, along with Cabernet Franc, and a dash of Petit Verdot, this gorgeous red is bright and lively with wonderful verve. It begins with wonderful aromatics of dark cherries and plum, woven together with exotic spices, dried spring flowers, graphite, mesquite and even some hints of orange zest nuances taking shape beautifully in the glass. Medium-plus bodied, with velvety tannins and bright acidity framing the red fruit and floral profile. It remains fresh and inviting, showing outstanding focus and overall balance from start to finish. A unique and very impressive wine from Gandona in the vintage.
