Set in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, the Wirtz Vineyard boasts 40-year-old Pinot Noir vines. The result is a translucent colored Pinot Noir, which opens with an aromatic profile of red currants, red cherry preserves with suggestions of cloves and forest floor. The palate is smooth and seductive, as it yields enticing flavors reminiscent of black cherry, leather, wild blackberry pie and peat moss with a touch of white truffle shavings. This is serious wine made by winemaker Brian Marcy, and while this is impossible to resist now, it also shows wonderful ageing potential. (Best 2017-2030) - October, 2017 (OB)
