Hedges love to try interesting and different things with their Estate fruit. A case in point is this Portuguese-style blend of 59% Souzao and 41% Tinta Cao brought up in 100% American oak. Dark brickish purple with a reddish-gray rim displays wonderfully in the glass. Notes of port-like spiced boysenberry, pine needle forest, dried poultry herbs, pencil shavings, and a hint of earth combine with a beautiful mouthfeel, medium-plus acidity, a medium to full body, and a rich luxurious finish. Reminds me of being in Portugal sipping wines at a café because it’s almost port-like. Only 100 cases produced.
