CARDINALE Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2015

The 2015 Cardinale is yet another outstanding wine by winemaker Chris Carpenter in this vintage. Composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from different vineyards across the entire valley and 10% Merlot all from W.S. Keys Vineyard. The fruit spent 20 months in 100% French oak, 84% new and begins with irresistible aromatics of ripe blackberries, blueberries and boysenberries, which are joined together with spices, graphite, dried sage and mocha nuances that all develop in the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied with a gorgeous round, voluptuous texture supported by well-integrated, nicely polished tannins that provide excellent structure. It continues to impress with its remarkable overall depth and concentration as beautiful ripe fruits continue to build and show stunning length on the finish. The 2015 is total success, and while already completely captivating, it also has the stuff to age gracefully for well beyond a decade. Readers will certainly be for a treat if approaching this early on, and even more so if they can keep it around for a decade or longer.
