The 2016 Tempest is an absolutely majestic wine from Realm Cellars. This Merlot-based wine includes a percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, which was sourced from Beckstoffer Orchard, Dr. Crane, as well as Blair Vineyard in Calistoga. The wine itself displays a dark, opaque color and explodes with aromatics of ripe blackberries, blueberries and dark cherry reduction, which is joined by violets, baking spices, exotic spices, loam and mocha all soaring from the glass. On the palate this is equally satisfying, as this full-bodied red possesses a rich voluptuous texture which delivers layer upon layer of ripe dark fruits and sweet exotic spices which continue to build. Highly concentrated, yet this also displays a level of poise, as it all comes to an end with a long, multidimensional finish. This towering red should continue to thrive in the cellar for many years to come, although it's hedonistic edge makes its simply irresistible now.
