The 2016 'Signature' Cabernet Sauvignon is absolutely sensational, and may be the most impressive I have ever tasted from Chappellet. Composed of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot and 9% Malbec this instantly bursts open with seductive aromas of ripe blackberries and black currants which are joined by espresso, tilled soil, dark chocolate and dried exotic spices that all soar from the glass. Full-bodied and beautifully polished with outstanding concentration, depth and structure. It goes on to impress with its opulent layers of ripe dark fruits, espresso and spice flavors that are framed by lovely underlying acidity keeping it fresh through the long supple finish. This is a total knockout, and amongst one of the finest vintages I can recall for Chappellet’s 'Signature' Cabernet. While this is nearly impossible to resist in its youth, it also has the potential to age brilliantly over the next two decades.
