A phenomenal showing, the 2006 Cardinale is composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot, which was sourced from various vineyards across the valley including Veeder Peak, W.S. Keyes, To Kalon, Taylor, Spring Mountain Vineyard and Van Z. The wine spent 19 months in 100% French oak, 100% new and begins with aromas of blackberry reduction, mocha, black tea and crushed mint. Massive and remarkably dense, this shows concentrated flavors of mocha, black tea, graphite and crème de cassis, that are held together beautifully. The mid-palate weight is impressive as the finish is extremely lengthy and generous. This is an utterly fascinating showing from talented winemaker Chris Carpenter.
