My favorite Syrah from Matt Reynvaan from the 2019 releases, I’m having a hard time finding fault with this scintillating wine from the In The Rocks Vineyard, in fact, it’s damn near perfect. I adore all of Reynvaan’s wines, and it shows how good of a winemaker he really is when every vintage is different, but outstanding in their own way. There is something special about this particular wine - it has this ‘je ne sai quoi’ that makes it stand out from the others. The nose of black cherry, freshly sparked flint, crushed stone, grapefruit pith, dried sage, smoked beef ribs and cracked black peppercorn come at you in waves. The palate is perfectly balanced with high acidity, luscious fruit flavors, plus the meaty and savory components that combine with wonderfully integrated tannins that enhance and complement the finish, rather than compete against it. The balance is impeccable, with every component perfectly in tune with one another. Please take my word for it and find some of this wine to cellar and enjoy over the next 15 years, you won’t regret it.
