MAISON BLEUE Syrah, The Rocks District ‘Frontière’ 2019

The 2019 Frontière is a small production (only 100 cases) of Syrah from the Funk Estate in the Rocks District and displays a beautiful dark ruby and purple core with a neon pink rim. Aged for 11 months in about 40% new French oak barrels, which gives it that yummy toasted baking spice and tobacco note on the nose. Additional notes of dried blackberry, sea-salt caramel, roasted game, black olive tapenade, and cedary herbs pop from the glass. The balance is strong between the acidity, tannin, fruit, spice, and body. It’s still very young and will benefit from a year or two in bottle.
