SAVIAH CELLARS Syrah, Rocks District Milton-Freewater ‘Waterstone Vineyard’ 2020

The most complex of all the Saviah Cellars Syrah offerings in 2020 is the Waterstone Vineyard Syrah. Spending 17 months in neutral French oak and inky colored, it gives up aromas of earth and mushroom. Carrying a dense and fine tannic structure, it shows blackberry, black currant, fennel, charcoal, and slight saline early in the game. Just when you are starting to comprehend the diverse entry, fatty burnt ends and slight pepper jump in the mix mid-palate through the 45 second finish to totally blow your mind. This profound wine shifted from gear to gear seamlessly, without a hesitation in sight. Equal parts fruity, savory and “funky” make this one of the better and more balanced Syrah’s to come out of the Rocks District this vintage. This outstanding effort is ready now and should sail effortlessly for 15+ years.
