Pasxa is a brand new venture by Mike Martin of The Walls, and winemaker Todd Alexander of Force Majeure fame, and these inaugural wines do not disappoint in the slightest. The SJR Vineyard Syrah spends 18 months in mostly neutral French oak and is 100% Syrah. The nose is intoxicating with scents of ripe black plum, baked brie with cranberry compote, dried black truffle, smoked barbequed beef, hard salami, a touch of dried dill. It’s a wild combination that ends up working incredibly well together. The palate is just as amazing with flavors of wild blueberry, dried pepperoni, crushed wet stones, smoked pulled pork and a saline iodine finish. The acidity is high and lingers for minutes on the finish. It’s smokey, it’s savory, it’s fruity, it’s meaty, it’s everything you want from a Syrah, not just from Washington State, but from anywhere.
