A beautiful first effort from the Echolands team’s first vintage. This Bordeaux blend comprises 40% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet France and 2% Petit Verdot. The nose starts a bit muted but opens up after 30 minutes of air and delivers a lovely punch of macerated blackberry, blue plum, old leather, white tobacco leaf, ground espresso beans and a touch of fennel seed. A touch of sweetness from the black fruit hits your palate first, but quickly evolves into a savory melange of toasted baking spices and dried thyme and finishes with dusty tannins and some beautiful acidity. It will be fun to watch this winery evolve over the next few years!
