The 2020 Mahana contains a combination of 82% Syrah and 18% Grenache and comes from the Rockgarden and River Rock Vineyards of The Rocks District. It’s aged in about 20% new French oak and fermented with 15% whole cluster. Definitely more meaty, funky, and interesting on the nose than the 2019, with aromas of blackberry, bacon grease, toasted cinnamon stick, pencil shavings, cracked green peppercorn, and a hint of olive oil. The palate gifts flavors of black plum, bacon fat, wet earth, black-peppered charcuterie, and smoked game. If you love the style of Syrah from The Rocks, give this one a try. 400 cases made. Highly recommended.
